How the estimate is priced
The same three lines we use on real EV charger quotes, for a permitted 60A hardwired Level 2 install in the Bay Area. The on-screen number assumes the wire runs in conduit and a permit is pulled, so a real job usually lands at or below it.
| Line | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Permit processing | $400 | Permit drawings, the application, and handling it with your city or county. The permit fee your city charges is paid separately. |
| Parts & materials | $400 + $10 per foot | Breaker, wire, conduit, fittings, and mounting hardware. Wire that runs inside walls or an attic without conduit is $8 per foot. |
| Installation, labor & inspection | $1,300 | Licensed C-10 electricians, mounting and connecting the charger, testing, and meeting the inspector for the final. |
| Not included | — | The charger unit, city permit fees, trenching, and any panel upgrade or load management. |
Example: a Tesla Wall Connector 30 feet from the panel is $400 + $700 + $1,300 = $2,400, plus the charger.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to install a Level 2 EV charger in the Bay Area?
A permitted 60A hardwired Level 2 install (Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, and similar) costs $2,100 plus $10 per foot of wire run from your electrical panel: about $2,200 at 10 feet, $2,600 at 50 feet, and $3,100 at 100 feet. That covers $400 permit processing (drawings, application, and handling), $400 base parts plus the wire run, and $1,300 for installation, labor, and the final inspection. The charger unit and the permit fee your city charges are not included.
Is the charger itself included in the estimate?
No. The estimate is for the installation. You can buy the charger you want (we will recommend one for your car and panel), or we install one you already own. Typical hardware prices are listed on our EV charger installation page.
Do I need a permit for an EV charger?
A hardwired 60A charger circuit needs an electrical permit and a final inspection, and we handle both. Our $400 permit processing covers the drawings, the application, and handling it with your city or county; the permit fee the city itself charges is paid separately. A plug-in 240V outlet (NEMA 14-50 or 14-30) may not need a permit, depending on the city and the circuit, and usually costs less. We confirm before we quote.
How do I measure the distance from my panel to the charger?
Measure along the path the wire would actually take, not a straight line: up or down the wall, across the ceiling or attic, and around corners to where the charger will mount. If you do not have a tape measure, pace it off; one adult step is roughly 2.5 feet. A rough number is fine, because we confirm it on the site check before you get a fixed price.
What can make the final price higher or lower?
Lower: if the wire can run inside walls, an attic, or a crawlspace without conduit, wire drops from $10 to $8 per foot, and a plug-in outlet may avoid the permit. Higher: trenching to a detached garage, a panel without spare capacity (load management or a panel upgrade), or a run long enough to need heavier wire. Those are priced separately after a site check, and the fixed price in your written quote is the price you pay for that scope.
What happens when I send myself the estimate?
We save your estimate and address, email you a copy, and call to schedule a free site check, during business hours often the same day. We never sell or share your information.
