Do You Need a Panel Upgrade?
Many Bay Area homes have 100-amp or 150-amp electrical panels. EV chargers typically require a dedicated 40-60 amp circuit. If your panel is near capacity or older, an upgrade may be necessary. We assess your panel during consultation and provide honest recommendations.
- Free panel assessment with every EV charger quote
- Panel upgrades from 100A to 200A or higher
- Load management solutions to avoid costly upgrades
- Solar-ready panel configurations

Learn About Solar InstallationFrequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to install a Level 2 or Tesla Wall Connector EV charger?
A typical Level 2 home charger installation — including the Tesla Wall Connector — runs about $800 to $2,200 when your electrical panel has spare capacity and the charger is near the panel. Cost rises with longer conduit runs, trenching, or if a panel upgrade is required. We assess your panel first and give one upfront, fixed price covering the dedicated circuit, charger mounting, permit, and inspection. Call (650) 451-8464 for a quote specific to your home.
Do you handle the electrical permit for my EV charger?
Yes. A Level 2 EV charger installation requires an electrical permit, and we pull the permit, schedule the work, and meet the city or county inspector for the final inspection — all included in your quote. As a licensed C-10 contractor (CA #1143455) we make sure the install is code-compliant and inspection-ready.
How long does an EV charger installation take?
Most residential EV charger installations are completed in about 3 to 5 hours when your panel has capacity. If a panel upgrade or a long wiring run is needed, the job may extend to a full day or require a second visit. We confirm the expected timeline during your free assessment.
Can my existing electrical panel handle an EV charger, or do I need a panel upgrade?
It depends on your panel's size and existing load. Many older Bay Area homes have 100-amp service that may already be near capacity, while an EV charger typically needs a dedicated 40–60 amp circuit. During your free assessment we perform a load calculation and tell you honestly whether your current panel is sufficient, whether load management can avoid an upgrade, or whether a 200-amp upgrade is the smarter long-term move.
Which EV chargers do you install?
We install all major Level 2 chargers, including the Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, JuiceBox, and Grizzl-E, as well as other UL-listed brands. As a Tesla Certified Installer we can recommend the best charger for your vehicle, panel, and smart-charging needs, or install a charger you've already purchased.
Should I get a hardwired charger or a NEMA 14-50 outlet?
Both work well. A NEMA 14-50 outlet gives you a flexible plug-in option and lets you take a portable charger with you, but it's typically limited to about 40 amps (32 amps continuous). A hardwired charger supports higher amperage (up to 48–60 amps) for the fastest home charging, is more weather-resistant outdoors, and is often required by code for higher-power installs. We help you choose based on your vehicle's charging rate and where the charger will be mounted.
Do you install commercial or workplace EV charging stations?
Yes. We install commercial and workplace EV charging stations for businesses, multi-family properties, and public locations — including multi-port stations, networked chargers with payment processing, load management across multiple chargers, and ADA-compliant installations. We can also pair commercial charging with solar to lower operating costs.
Are you a licensed and insured electrician for EV charger installation?
Yes. Pacific Edge Electric and Solar holds California C-10 Contractor License #1143455 and is fully bonded and insured. We're also a Tesla Certified Installer and Enphase Installer, with more than 1,000 Bay Area projects completed since 2014. EV charger installation requires a licensed electrician and a permit — DIY installation is unsafe and not code-compliant.
Can I charge my EV with solar power?
Yes. As a full solar and electrical contractor, we design integrated solar-plus-EV-charging systems so you can fuel your vehicle with your own clean energy and reduce both your electric bill and your fuel costs. We can install the charger now and make your panel solar-ready, or do the solar and charger together.
